Cassandra is, at the core, a very sweet and thoughtful girl. She has what she disdainfully terms a "bleeding heart:" she feels things very deeply, and is a sucker for sob stories, advertising, and cute things of all kinds. She doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve, though, and it can take a little digging to reach that core at times. She has an oddly mismatched personality, with a dry and sarcastic sense of humor and a manner that can seem a bit cold and cynical to people who don't know her well. She doesn't mean to be; she just isn't very good at opening up to strangers. Other personality quirks include a deep-seated fear of public speaking, the tendency to space out and daydream, a love of books, insecurity over her looks, and a protective streak a mile wide. Thus far, her protective streak has only manifested for her little brothers, but who knows what will happen when her kids are born? Rock a bye baby on the tree top, When the wind blows the cradle will rock, When the bough breaks the cradle will fall, And down will come baby, cradle and all. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - history. history. history. history. Cassandra comes from your average middle-class family. Her father, Sam, is a moderately successful businessman, while her mother, Valerie, is a columnist for the local newspaper. She has two twin terrors for younger brothers, Danny and Charles, who are currently thirteen and whom she loves very much. A perfectly normal and happy family. Except for the fact that Cassandra has always been somewhat... unlucky. As a little kid, she was always the one who managed to trip and embarrass herself in front of everyone. In grade school, it was she whose dog really did eat her homework. She never made friends easily, though the few friends she made were good ones, and generally tried to attract as little notice as possible. So when one of the most attractive guys she had ever met confessed that he liked her, she really ought to have smelt a rat. He was like her own personal Adonis, and it was bliss for a time. She had never considered sex before, but he told her that that was okay, he would wait for her, he wouldn't pressure her. Ha ha ha. He kept his promise in theory, not pressuring her outright, but he pressured her in a myriad of other ways, in his body language and little, pointed comments. Eventually, she gave in- after all, wasn't this love? To make a long story short, no. It wasn't love. Not on her part, however desperately she clung to the notion, and certainly not on his. It all came out, after that night- how he had only approached her because one of his friends had bet that he couldn't get her to "put out." He unceremoniously dumped her the very next day. That was hard enough, but a missed period and violent bouts of nausea later, it became only too clear that that night would have more lasting consequences than a broken heart. Worse still, her former boyfriend- ha! boyfriend indeed- denied that the baby was his. He took what seemed to be devastating pleasure in implying that she slept around freely. Like her Greek namesake, Cassandra was not believed when she tried to tell people the truth. Her former boyfriend was too well-liked- what was this little slut doing, smearing his name? He would never do such a thing! Her parents tried to be understanding, but they had all too plainly lost their faith in their only daughter. Sending her to St. Valentine's was their attempt to both do what was best for their daughter and still effectively remove her from the family. Cassandra forgives them, sort of, but it's hard- particularly since her little brothers aren't supposed to talk to her, as she might be a 'bad influence' on them.
