Academy of the Fallen

Many years ago two castles were forged deep within the mountains. One was known as the Day and Night Academy, and was built for the purpose of enhancing the skills of those in paranormal lore, and even humans. The other (built in the late middle ages)was forged by hundreds of thousands of slaves, owned by the ruler of a warrior sect in those very Bulgarian mountains. The name of that castle was Boendrugger, and the king was obsessed with eternal life but failed-despite all his efforts of alchemy- to reach his goal of immortality. Instead he died of old age and his concoctions morphed the castle's inhabitors. These mutations caused mystical beings to appear from the shadows just as much as it created them. The old castle turned into an academy, as well, and soon the two became very close allies.

Now, in the current year of 2012, the two castles were forced to abandon their locations and ban together due to humans and hunters alike which hunted them and their "abominations."

In a desperate attempt to keep the members of the new academy safe, the great grandson of the late king of Boendrugger attempted to develop a magical barrier around the new kingdom and all its lands. He tried for months with no promising results until one day he was so crestfallen that he fell into a dangerous anger. His failure tormented him, and in his rage he swept all his potions, sorcerous items, and vials off of every surface of his work room and released deadly toxins like a plague unto the lands.

Members of every race in the new academy worked hard to clean the mess of the young sorcerer and purify their precious new lands only to have the worst of it all. Each member of the group that helped morphed into untold creatures. These creatures had the same basic mold, but for each different race this new creature once was, their new form held a single characteristic of that lost past.

This new species came to be called the Mahou. The mahou were not able to shift into a "normal" appearance-as they may have been able to do before- but instead have a weak ability to cast an illusion to hide their true forms from the world. To start; this ability could only be used to hide them for a few moments, but with proper practice and training one could maintain the illusion for quite some time.

As more time passed, and this new species gained acceptance, and even love, the members of the new academy came to realize that this mutation was a genetic defect. The mahou that had been lucky enough to not be shunned, or cast to the side for their new appearances, flourished and had children. These descendants held all features of their Mahou parent, but none of the other. People began to worry that the Mahou would over take them, and some began to even fear these new abominations. They had long forgotten that the Mahou were once the same as them, and treated them unkindly-even killed them at times.

Unnecessary battles broke out in the academy, and the strong bond that held them together as allies soon fell to the discrimination against the new monsters that plagued the lands now. Will you fall to the fear of the Mahou, or live your life as nothing changed and accept the new species? This is the Academy of the Fallen.
