it was about time for mercedes to arrive in texas. she had been running for too long, in her opinion. it had been eighteen months since she had given birth to her son. her one and only, her gorgeous baby boy. her elijah. as mercedes, sadie as everyone called her, sat on one of the many benches that lay on the grounds of the home, she sighed. she didn't know if she could go through with this. she had been absent from elijah's life for so well over a year, she didn't know if she could just jump right in. sure she had seen her baby before on numerous occasions, but what she was asking now was far more difficult. she wasn't asking if she could drop by and take him out for ice cream. she was asking to be a part of little 'lijah's life. she had signed elijah away to adamo just minutes after the birth. he, by law, could always say no. and that was her biggest fear. sure, she didn't want to have a child, she was fifteen when it happened. but after mulling it over for so long, her maternal instincts knew that she had to be there for him. that no matter how many other girls that adam would be with. she was always going to be 'mommy' to the gorgeous toddler.
sadie made her decision, it was now or never. she pulled out her cell phone and gave adamo a call. she assumed that he must have been busy because it was forwarded to voicemail. she took a deep breath and spoke into the phone. "uh, adam? hi, it's uh, me sadie. i just thought that i would uh, call to let you know i'm here. in bellevue. i'm outside st.valentines actually. if you could uh, text me or something i would appreciate it. i would really like to see lijah, talk to you later." sadie hung up the phone. she hated how awkward her message was but there was no chance that she could have done any better that that. what was a girl supposed to say to the father of her child right before she endures the hardest thing that she had ever had to face. as she sat with her ankles crossed and her hands on her lap, she could feel how sweaty her palms were. nervousness overcame her. she didn't know how long she would have to wait here but as she thought about it, it might have been better that she didn't have to actually speak with him yet. she could try to come up with the perfect way to ask.
she definitely wasn't going to be straight forward, that wasn't how her mind operated. though perhaps he would have liked for her to be straightforward. there were too many options, too many words, too many emotions. she hated this, but if she wanted to even hope to see her son annually, she had to. she had to swallow her pride and lay all of her cards down. she had to explain that what she did was out of fear and out of naivety. she was younger, more stupid, and less educated that she was now. she wanted to prove that she had changed. as much as she wanted to have things work between the two of them and hopefully become a family, she would explain to him that it would be okay if he didn't want that. she knew that somewhere deep down she had hurt him. maybe not a lot or as far down as others. but she knew that what she did was wrong at time.

Adam’s days were always hectic, but then again what could one expect when you were the father of three and going at it alone. Or mostly alone. Lucy was dealing with her own things since the birth of their son, Adam could understand that, he was willing to give her time. But while she sorted everything out in her head it left him with a lot of time with their new born baby. Having two toddlers on your own was enough, hell Adam was still working out the kinks in the whole system he was had down pat, but throw an infant on top of that and thing just sort of lost control. Still, by some miracle, Adam had managed to rein everything in, all three children were clean, dressed and fed, and aside from Kyra’s normal energetic self, they were all calm. How he did it Adam would never know, it was one of those rare occasions where things just work, and for once he was going to be on time, a rarity even for the late starting day he had that day. Or so he thought. That is until he found a message on his cell phone.
What he heard through the receiver stunned him. There was no way it was real, no way such a thing could really happen. Why would Sadie come all the way to Texas just to see Elijah? Something was up, and quite frankly it set his mind a whir, adding to the stress he already felt with juggling three young children. He sent her a text in reply ‘Meet by gardens. 1 hr. ttys.’ Adam hated using text talk and abbreviations for things, really he had wanted to call back, but two things were stopping him from both. One he had a screeching infant in his arms and two Adam wasn’t quite sure he was ready to hear her voice just yet, he needed to prepare himself for that. With a sigh he threw his phone gently to the side while he tried to comfort a very fussy Ezra, mean while praying that Kyra kept playing with he doll quietly and Elijah remained asleep for a little while longer.
It took him a half hour to calm Ezzy, but once he did Adam wasted no time setting him up in his carrier, sound asleep. Of course Kyra had grown bored before that, but three year old were mighty easy to distract and after drawing for a bit and movie time the little girl had been content. Once Ezzy was down it was time to move things along, Adam was already going to be missing a class to meet with Sadie, he couldn’t afford to be running late. So he hooked Ezzy’s carrier in to the stroller, and gently woke Lijah, comforting quickly so he would go on with one of his hissy fits. As quickly as he could he got him buckled into the stroller’s other seat and finally he was ready to go.
First stop was the office, he had to pick up mail he had been sent by his adoptive parents, some things for the kids mostly, their kindness never ceased to amaze him. Then it was off to the play room so Kyra could attend her play group, socializing was key after all. Not to mention it left Adam with a bit of time without a demanding three year old to constantly keep you worrying. After that there was brief stop by the rest rooms for changing time, before Adam and his boys headed off across the campus toward the gardens, Elijah kicking his feet happily as he fiddled with his bear and Ezra sound asleep in his carrier.
All was good, until the garden came into sight and Adam’s heart felt like it would beat straight out of his chest. In truth Adam felt as if he saw Sadie every single day, their little boy took after her looks so much, but still, every time he saw her his breath would still catch in his chest, just like the night he first saw her at that party.

mercedes was rarely ever nervous. but under these circumstances, she couldn't help but to be a bit fearful of what was going to happen. she had just signed up to stay at saint valentines. even if adamo denied her, she still wanted to learn how to be a good mother. hell, she didn't know how to make a bottle. she was probably the worst person that adam had a child with. she might have been a quiet school oriented girl but that didn't mean she was submissive in the least. she did things her way and that was how she always was. to be honest she really didn't want to be a parent. she was far too young and she had barely passed her sophomore year. being a mother to the little boy would have interfered with her plans of graduation and college. that was why she had given baby elijah to adam. the only thing that she asked was if she could give the infant his middle name. lucas. if she had wanted to keep the boy she would have named him no doubt, but she didn't at the time. she just wanted him to have something that he could say his mother gave him.
sadie was glad that adam had replied so quickly, he said the gardens in an hour. yeah, like she knew exactly where the gardens were. the grounds were huge. she spent most of the house searching for the area, and ended up asking a sweet looking girl, sloan, where she could find it. it turned out that the gardens were on the other side of the campus grounds. sadie quickly followed the directions the stranger had given her and found it within ten minutes. leaving only a fifteen minute window until adam said he would meet. her. if sadie suffered from anxiety attacks, she would have surely had one right then and there. but that was not the case, she just had a case of the nerves. she didn't know what to expect. there were far too many ways that adam could react. he could hate her, being the worst one. or he could be resentful, or disappointed. she wanted none of those things. she just wanted a second chance. a second chance to be a mother and, deep down, a second chance to be with adam. she had strict beliefs, and one of which meant that a mother and father should stay together for the sake of the child, and in adam's case, children.
it wasn't adam that sadie saw first. it was elijah, her stomach jumped into her throat, he was so beautiful. more so that sadie had imagined. his handsome dark hair and sadie's light eyes. in his arms he held the bear that he had had since infancy. sadie could see where he got his looks, her mostly but there were the little things that he had received from adam. his smile, his soft features, and his calmness. both saide and adam were very good looking people, it was imminent that their child be just as beautiful. mercedes smiled at her son, meeting their eyes. she thought she say a glimpse of a smile on his small face. he did know who she was. that was a good sign. sadie was so transfixed on elijah that she forgot about adam, if only for that short half a second. she raised her eyes and they landed on adam.
damn. he was just the same as he always was, except he looked wiser. and sadie also spotted a newborn carrier. and at that moment her intentions were crushed. adam probably had a girlfriend, and maybe he was happy. sadie wanted to run from her position, run and cry. there was no reason for her to be here now, if adam had a girlfriend, sadie's company would be unnecessisary. at least she could stay and ask to keep elijah for a day or two at a time. the idea of elijah being around another girl frustrated mercedes, that was her son. not some other broad's that wanted to take advantage of adam. no, maybe it was a good idea that she was here. she could help adam, and maybe help him realize that she was good for him. she wiped at the moisture growing in the corner, and turned her head. "hey adam, thank you for coming." she said with a half attempted smile.
